  • With short-term mission growing in popularity and having reported mixed effects, this study used mainly a web-based self-report questionnaire among Australian theological students and short-term missionaries to find that the main motivation for short-term missions given by the 149 respondents was a desire to serve God, followed closely by spiritual and personal development opportunities. Participants described the content, mode and personnel involved in their training, and gave suggestions for improvements, most rating it adequate for what they encountered, and indicating increased interest in long-term service. Unaccredited mission internships were rated the most attractive of programs combining training and short-term mission.
