Abstract
  • This project describes how the Circumplex Model developed by Olson, Russell, and Sprenkle integrates family theory concepts. It uses this model for the pastoral assessment of congregational families with regard to life cycle issues. The author hypothesizes that the model may be useful in identifying families who risk having difficulty with life cycle transitions and situational crises. He shows how the family wellness program 'Understanding Us,' which is based on the circumplex model, can be a vehicle for such assessment. The project presents a theological understanding of the model and of its application to pastoral ministry to families.
