Abstract
  • This major project is unique in that it details the goal of developing a missionary training paradigm for Church of God World Missions and how it came about through God giving favor in relationships with multiple denominational partners, leaders, past ministry experience, relevant literature and specific teachers that shaped the direction through the courses that they taught, as well as through data gathered from current missionaries. The methodology presented in this project is a combination of the following six components. The director of Church of God World Missions has vast practical experience at various levels of leadership. His desire is for a practical approach that has a large portion of training time taking place in an overseas or foreign context. The next area of focus concentrates on strategic leadership meetings. While much time has been spent consulting with Church of God World Missions, other key departments have been consulted within our denomination as well. The third area of impact on the methodology of this project is the literature review. Various sources have been used including lecture notes, books, and dissertations on holistic discipleship. In addition, the literature review gathers specific information for the missionary training manual that is not a part of this dissertation project. Another major factor that influences this project is my past ten years of experience in leading a discipleship training program. These years of experience play a crucial role in shaping the discipleship component of the missionary training paradigm. The fifth major area that has shaped this project is the courses and faculty I have been exposed to at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Several professors taught modules that have helped establish a holistic discipleship structure to minister to the whole person. The final component is the data that was received from current Church of God missionaries that completed the design questionnaire. The data strongly validated the direction of our design as well as added to the training model in specific ways.
