Abstract
  • Church members know little about each other's lives. When they must engage in conversations and make divisive decisions, they express opposing views, and end up taking sides in church fights. Friends go home asking each other, 'I wonder where that came from.' As delegates to our Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ, we have no idea what experiences each of us carries, what joy or pain influences what we say or do. Twelve UCC clergy and lay members served as a microcosm of the ecclesia to learn what gives each other joy and pain.
