Abstract

Current architectural church designs, rectangular in form like the Old Testament tabernacle, a place of sacrifice, is used for the New Testament sacramental worship. To practice sacramental worship in a sacrificial setting creates confusion for the worshippers. A study of theological content and movement in the communion liturgy of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod gives direction to space required for worship; a study of historical forms of church architecture gives rise to new forms possible. New church buildings and facilities that can be remodeled may be modified to better complement the worship that takes place therein.
