Abstract
  • This project investigated the use of mentoring as a one-to-one, life-on-life method of making disciples. The specific facet of mentoring considered is discipleship in leadership development and deployment. A 13-week mentoring program on leadership development and deployment was developed which focused on character, content, and competency. Lay-leaders where mentored through the project both individually and in small groups. Those team-members being led assessed the lay-leaders before and after the mentoring program. The lay-leaders' significantly improved in the areas of 'follower-ship' skills, knowledge and understanding in the discipline of leadership, and leadership skills. The functional effectiveness of the teams led by the lay-leaders also improved, and an attitude and desire to mentor others was instilled in the lay-leaders, all of whom considered themselves equipped to mentor others.
