Abstract
  • Almost 20 percent of the adults in the United States cannot read. This project's sources of information include the State Department of Education, the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, Project Literacy, and selected books that deal with literacy. The one-on-one method of teaching follows the 'Laubach Way to Reading.' Adults without reading skills are often reluctant to come forward. However, once they do, a whole new world opens up to them and they find excitement in being able to read. Adult literacy is an effective outreach tool.
