Abstract
  • This dissertation answers the thesis question, 'Can a training program be created to equip lay ministers to meet the needs of church members experiencing health crises and/or grief?' A training program is provided to meet this need. Each chapter is presented with the thesis in mind. The first chapter presents views of specific theologians on the subject of suffering and the expected role of lay ministers to meet the needs of the suffering. Subsequent chapters provide practical considerations for lay ministers. The final chapter presents the development, execution, and assessment of the training program. Appendices contain supporting training materials.
