  • Following an examination of the nature of human creation, it is the author's thesis that the Alzheimer's patient remains spiritually alert, even as the body and mind deteriorate, and it is possible to move through the mask of Alzheimer's Disease and encounter the sacred. The author has written a Bible study with eight lessons for middle stage Alzheimer's residents in the special care unit at The Hermitage in Richmond, Virginia. By observing fourteen residents participating in three of the lessons and interviewing the study leader, the author concludes that the lessons promote spirituality by providing meaning, purpose and hope.
