Abstract
  • We live in an age of isolation, anxiety, hurry, and pain. There is a tremendous need for the church to care for its members and reach out with the love of Christ. Small groups play a strategic role in faciliating life transformation and care for those in need. At Parkview Church in Iowa City, IA, located next to the University of Iowa, I provided a ten-week class designed to equip experienced small group leaders for caring ministries. As a leader and facilitator, I envisioned and equipped small group leaders to care for those working through loneliness, depression, worry, cancer, divorce, grief and loss, and hospitalization. The results of this class were noteworthy. Small group leaders benefited from the class and acknowledged greater confidence in dealing with these complex issues in life.
