Abstract
  • This project seeks to develop a transformative hermeneutic, a method of Bible study that incorporates historical investigation as a means toward the contemporary significance of the text and as a tool in personal spiritual development. The curriculum designed for this project was a vital component of the institutional disciple-making efforts of the Memorial Church of Christ (Livonia, MI), a congregation firmly committed to the vision and values of the Restoration Movement (also known as the Stone-Campbell Movement). Results show that, thirty days after the completion of the project, fifty percent of those participating continued to study the scriptures with greater frequency than indicated on the initial surveys.
