Abstract
  • There are six common denominators of effective preaching. These common variables that are repeated in one good preacher after another fall into three major headings: what is said (accuracy, relevance); how it is said (clarity, passion); and who says it (giftedness, credibility). Through the process of 'storyboarding,' a creative brainstorming exercise, these common variables were highlighted. This led to the creation of an analytical tool that was used to evaluate sermons from 8 different preachers from various denominational backgrounds. The analytical tool served to verify the effectiveness of those preachers who participated in the study. This project does for preaching what Aristotle did for rhetoric by providing an instructive paradigm.
