Abstract
  • This project was designed to provide information that local church leaders could use to carry out ministries to assist those who are coping with divorce. The research was carried out during work with several divorce support groups in a Presbyterian Church in Spokane, Washington, and a Reformed Church in America congregation in Holland, Michigan. The purpose of the project was to help congregations establish a ministry both with and to divorced persons, and to demonstrate its consistency with the gospel. It will help readers to understand the divorce experience both psychologically and theologically. A cadre of lay facilitators who were themselves wounded healers was trained to provide significant leadership to these support groups in the local church.
