- Abstract
- This project explores 6 unique stresses of pastoral ministry in the rural settings and how they affect the marriage of the pastor. The 6 stresses are finances, time, pressure for results, isolation, penetrating a closed rural system, and lack of preparation in seminary. It examines the biblical basis of marriage, ministry, and stress through biblical characters. Research consisted of extended interviews of 9 rural pastors who share experiences in each area of stress. Interview questions include the effects of stress on the marriage, the most stressful aspect of rural ministry and survival methods that participants found were helpful.
