- Abstract
- The challenges of ministry in rural congregations are many. Support and growth for rural pastors is crucial if they are to offer effective ministry in this context. One answer to this concern is the formation of covenant small groups that meet regularly for worship, Bible study, self/group directed continuing education, mutual support and prayer. Research into the biblical, theological, and historical foundations of collegial ministry, current pastoral theological writing and covenant small groups is presented. The stories of three 'covenant groups' are presented, including examples of covenants and the insights of group members. Practical advice and resources are offered.
