Abstract
  • The thesis of this project is that spiritual direction is enhanced by a corresponding conscious journey towards individualism. As the spiritual direction coincides with individualism, there exists the potential for a profound conversion experience. The method of research was the use of case study material from four spiritual directees. There was a convergence of material from interpersonal relationships, relationship with God, and Jungian insights into the interior life. The Jungian material included use of symbols, dreams, typology, journal keeping, active imagination, and rituals. The conclusion of the study suggests that the Jungian component deepened the spiritual direction of lay Christians.
