- This project proposes that encouraging clients in pastoral counseling to project images and expectations of future occurrences should reveal dysfunctional aspects of personal core narratives. The project uses three case studies of patients in therapy to demonstrate the constructive power of core narrative in creating future stories. Deconstructing dysfunctional aspects of these narratives creates emotional and psychological space for reconstruction of more healthy narratives and patterns of life, thus creating experiences of hope and possibility for the future. Dysfunctional aspects of core narratives are altered and transformation occurs.
