Abstract
  • Systematic expository preaching through individual books of the Bible increases one's factual biblical knowledge and challenges believers to put their religion to work in a practical way, e.g. social action ministry. Eight sermons were preached from the letter of James. A pretest and posttest on the book revealed an increase in factual knowledge after the sermon series. Each message was discussed and suggestions were given on how it could be applied in practical ministry. The result was the formation of a benevolence committee that now ministers to specific social needs in the church and community.
