Abstract
  • The project context is Shorter Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Franklin, Tennessee. The hypothesis is that if persons could participate in a collaborative affordable housing pre-readiness program, eligibility for housing opportunities would improve and the church would become more effective in its mission to empower the community. A qualitative and quantitative research methodology was used with the congregation, community residents and community leaders to identify and measure barriers. The interviews, workshops, classes and forums addressed the issues that hindered eligibility with community agencies. The sessions were successful with persons becoming eligible for housing due to involvement in the pre-readiness program.
