Abstract
  • This thesis shows how counselling theory can be a useful resource to bring to the ministry of preaching. It documents an action in ministry consisting of a series of ten experimental sermons which were intended to be therapeutic for listeners. These sermons began with the ten 'irrational beliefs' from Albert Ellis' rational-emotive therapy, and reframed common psychological problems in terms of the Christian gospel. The study follows qualitative research methodology and indicates that the language of faith consciousness might hae power to transform the language of neurosis, resulting in therapeutic change.
