  • This is a study that describes the renewal of a formerly large suburban congregation, twelve hundred members, which had shrunk to under one hundred members. The methodology employed is an interplay between process theology and structured family systems theory. Intervention into the church family system relied upon the primary use of differing forms of paradox and not stating or identifying a diagnosis. As a result of the strong definition of the minister/therapist who actively rearranged power imbalances within the congregational setting, the church began to become more fully functioning.
