Abstract
  • This thesis is designed to strengthen a preacher's spiritual life. it assumes that formation of the person preaching is as important as formation of the material preached. The content explores four spiritual disciplines--silence, solitude, prayer and contemplation. Each discipline is examined by integrating biblical insights with themes synthesized from writers representing Evangelical, Roman Catholic, and Jewish traditions. These insights, both theoretical and practical, are then applied to the preacher's spiritual life, and developed into a four-part seminar that can be used to augment the technical training equally necessary to produce effective preachers.
