  • In a pastorate of ten years or longer, trust takes some new turns. Where the people as a whole and the pastor have shared significant mutual trust, such 'corporate' trust begins to weaken while the personal ties, or 'one to one' trust between the pastor and individual parishioners grows deeper. What do these paradoxical-seeming changes mean? nearly eighty such pastorates were studied to learn how the pastor can maintain strong corporate trust as well as the individual trust that results in good pastoral care. The most critical ingredient is candid mutual feedback between pastor and parishioners.
