Abstract
  • The application within a parish of theory and technique of community organizing is a viable form of congregational development. The author designed and implemented a course for leadership training, teaching the concepts developed by the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF). The project is set in the context of the history of organization development and congregational development. The systems theories of Senge and Friedman are discussed. These concepts are related to scriptural examples and theological and moral principles. The author interviewed the participants to determine the effectiveness of the program and found considerable increases in the level of leadership they exercised.
