Abstract
  • There has been a decline in growth and spiritual vitality in traditional churches, due largely to the neglect of the role of the Holy Spirit. With the effective employment of the gifts of the Spirit by the laity, a mainstream church can be renewed. The methodology of this thesis was the use of literature, interviews with laity and clergy, the personal observations and experiences of the writer, and a statistical survey of the Association of Christian Therapists. In contrast to the dominance of the clergy in the past, a new equality and service of the laity needs to emerge if true renewal in the church is to take place.
