Abstract
  • The thesis is that pastoral relatedness is the essence of pastoral care. The literature review seeks to demonstrate the thesis theoretically. In practice, the thesis is demonstrated quantitatively and qualitatively by the use of a questionnaire and interviews with patients. The following areas were examined: acceptance of the chaplain's ministry, the chaplain's supportive ministry, the chaplain's ministry to help the patient cope, and the chaplain's ministry to the patient's private concerns. The findings demonstrate that there is a high level of satisfaction with each aspect of pastoral care. The highest correlation being between patient satisfaction and ministry to the patient's private concerns.
