  • A study exploring what kind of psycho/spiritual/educational support groups help family members living with someone with mental illness to reduce isolation, improve resilience, enhance spiritual wholeness and lead to greater transparency within the church community itself. The author facilitated three six-week support groups in three different congregations, working with family members -- whether child, parent, spouse, or sibling -- who love someone with mental illness. The outcome of the group that went the entire six weeks supported the literature that peer-run support groups are an effective means of intervention. The groups that did not go to fruition highlight the complexity and challenges of designing programs that support those living with illnesses of the brain and nervous system.
