  • Hope for the future: spiritual formation in the early twenty-first-century evangelical Inter-Varsity leaders
Abstract
  • In the context of the evangelical campus ministry Inter-Varsity, this qualitative hermeneutic phenomenology study compares the spiritual formation experience of ten Canadian leaders in 2009 with the fellowship's eighty-year history. The literature review, interviews, and focus group revealed shifts: in understanding the Trinity more relationally than judicially; in choosing to follow Jesus because of kingdom vision more than need of salvation; in shaping more through group manuscript Bible study than through a daily quiet time alone with God. Concerns raised were: time pressures, a fragile relationship with the church and hunger for experience of God's love.
