  • In Romans 6:1-14 Paul penned one of the most significant passages in all of scripture concerning what it means to be a disciple of Christ: that every person who has been 'baptized into Christ Jesus' has, in reality, 'died to sin.' This dissertation takes a thorough look at Romans 6:1-14 in order to prepare a homiletic outline from which a sermon series is developed. Paul's situation, purpose for writing, and flow of thought are analyzed, and the verses are then studied in the original language. Two phrases--'baptized into Christ' and 'died to sin'--are analyzed and discussed, surveying opinions throughout the history of the Church.
