Abstract
  • The model of ministry is a Grief Education Group that trained congregational leaders to do grief support work in Vandalia United Methodist Church, Vandalia, Ohio. A six-week program conducted in the church enabled participants to do their own grief work and provide support to the congregation. Resources and training were provided by Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio through the certifies bereavement specialist chaplain. Pretests, posttests, and observation were used to evaluate the program. Analysis indicated that participants learned basic grief theory, exhibited skills in supporting bereaved persons, and confidently reached out to grieving persons.
