Abstract

An empathetic-incarnational approach to pastoral counseling is applied to an agency satellite in a parish context. Attention is given to the attitudes of parishioners regarding their willingness to participate in counseling. The research demonstrates a definite concern for privacy and anonymity for most members. The clients of the center are also surveyed. The factors of location, privacy, pastoral counselor, cost and referral are rated by their importance in the client's decision to seek counseling at this center. The responses of church members, unchurched persons, church leaders and non-leaders are compared and contrasted. Referral was the most important factor.
