Abstract
  • To more effectively communicate the gospel to Roman Catholics, Protestant missionaries in Eastern Europe need to better understand Catholicism. As a result the writer developed and taught the course, 'Towards an evangelical understanding of Roman Catholicism,' covering post-Vatican II theological developments using concepts of adult education. Although evangelicals have serious doctrinal differences with the Catholic Church, this does not rule out cooperation. The course seemed to slightly increase knowledge of the Catholic Church and confidence in sharing the gospel with Catholics. Despite doctrinal similarities, course members did not regard Catholics as proclaiming the same gospel as evangelicals.
