- Abstract
- This project investigated whether training in presenting religious symbols would improve clergy satisfaction with pastoral care of nursing facility DAT patients. The Index of General Affect was used to measure caregiver satisfaction with caregiving encounters before and after training that included bio-medical information on Alzheimer's type dementia and religious symbol re-presentation (based on Susanne Langer's theories). Contrary to expectations, satisfaction scores were high after the initial encounter and declined significantly after both types of presentation. The study suggests further areas for research to discern reasons for high initial satisfaction and the reduction in satisfaction after training.
