Abstract
  • An intentional self-directed reading plan can provide a minister with preaching illustrations, make him conversant on important issues, and make him a better facilitator of words. Using a combined approach that incorporated what was learned from a survey of pastors and what was learned from personal study, a three-month reading program was prepared. Four expository sermons were preached, utilizing what was gleaned from the reading program. Surveys were administered to six members of the researcher's parish after each preached sermon. The analyzed data strongly suggested that the self-directed reading project enhanced and enriched pulpit preaching.
