Abstract
  • The purpose of this project was to take a special look at the part attitudes play in the establishment of ministries with persons who are mentally retarded and to aid local churches as they consider this ministry. The research method used was to interview and survey several members of various local churches now participating in this ministry. In addition, a section on theology and 'rational assent' were included in the report. After identifying at least seven areas of consideration in which attitudes were expressed regarding ministry with persons who are mentally retarded, the report concluded that one's personal motivation and theology are especially significant, and often most helpful in the formation of attitudes which influence the establishment of ministries with persons who are mentally retarded.
