Abstract
  • This project in ministry developed a homiletical circle. That term refers to dialogue, mutuality, and joint stewardship of the Word between preacher and people as they gather around the Scriptures. Evaluation of nine sermons, sessions discussing views of preaching, and sermon preparation seminars were the methods used; members of Fourth Lutheran Church, Springfield, Ohio, participated. The results were: 1) dialogue, sharing, change in views of preaching, and increased lay theologizing developed; and 2) the preacher learned that inductive-proclamatory sermons, emphasis on Scripture as story, and communal exegesis contributed to the homiletical circle.
