- Abstract
- This project proposes a practical guide to directing an eight-day, values-clarifying retreat based on the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola. The guide incorporates principles of Ignatian spirituality--awareness, intelligence, reasonableness, responsibility, love--as articulated by Bernard Lonergan, and five basic Lukan values--dependence on God, compassion, inclusiveness, right use of possessions, nonviolence--to provide a manageable retreat framework. The manual succinctly illustrates the interplay of values, culture, and spirituality for contemporary Americans, using clear, pointed examples.
