Abstract
  • Vital ministry in small churches needs leadership that will build upon the characteristics of the small church. This dissertation begins with a study of the small church, a study of why it is as it is, a theological and biblical study of ministry, and an examination of other training models for small church leadership. A complete training model for lay ministers based upon the above discussion is outlined. An essay proceeds through Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Isaiah, and current liberation theologies to answer the question, 'What is God calling the small United Methodist church to be and do?'.
