  • Many years have passed since Koreans came to this country with big dreams and hopes. During these years, first-generation Koreans worked toward better socio-economic positions and lifestyles. However, while these parents were working hard, their children grew up without much love or interest from the parents. Two different lifestyles of the first and second generations were starting to make a wall between them. This wall manifested itself at home and at church as separation of these two groups. The difference in language, culture and values further separated these two groups. The church is given the task of reconciling and restoring first and second generations' relationship and treating their wounds. The writer has begun a retreat program that can allow second-generation children to discover a new identity, and Korean language school that can improve their relationship by better understanding each other. The writer believes that these programs can be a step in bridging the gap between first and second generations in Hahna Korean Presbyterian Church.
