Abstract
  • The thesis of this project is that contemporary North American society nurtures the denial of suffering and that through pastoral preaching a biblical view of suffering can effect change in the attitude toward suffering. The project has four parts: an analysis of how society responds to suffering; a summary of the biblical views of suffering; strategies for communicating the biblical views; and six 'counseling sermons' designed to foster a Christian perspective on suffering that includes facing one's own pain, active love in response to human suffering, and faith that God is ultimately triumphant over suffering.
