Abstracto

This project examines the function of preaching. It examines some historical functions for preaching as demonstrated by Peter, Origen, Vibia Perpetua, Augustine, and John Wesley. In addition to the historical overview, the project reveals results of a survey taken among laity and clergy in The Nebraska Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Disparity exists between expectations and experiences of the laity regarding preaching. There is discrepancy between the preachers' beliefs regarding their preaching, and how it is received. Suggestions are offered for further development of this topic.

Editor
