Abstract
  • This program was designed to train the chairpersons of the church's administrative committees enabling the laity to take responsibility for planning programs and ministry. It also served to test the new form of organization for smaller United Methodist churches which place emphasis on group responsibility and accountability over that of hierarchical leadership. The training, which is described, occurred in nine sessions focusing on leadership skills and roles. It was evaluated using the Style of Leadership Survey of Teleometrics, International, along with several other methods. It was found that such training can have a positive effect on leadership style and lay persons can be trained to plan, implement and evaluate ministry.
