Abstract
  • There is a connection between the birth and development of Latin American liberation theology and the social teaching of the Roman Catholic Church as it has developed during the past century. The project's methodology includes a study of pivotal church documents such as those from Vatican II, Medellin and Puebla. The author concludes that the Roman Catholic branch of Latin American liberation theology is an expression of Catholic social thought. In addition this theology is a new movement which grows out of a specific Latin American context. The movement is lived in base ecclesial communities and is articulated by theologians involved with these communities.
