Abstract
  • The liturgical cycle of the Orthodox Church begins with vespers, one of the least attended regular services in parishes, perhaps because of the lack of understanding of what is spiritually occurring, as well as of its connection to the Divine Liturgy – the most popular and highly attended service in parishes. Vespers has many theological, scriptural, and spiritual elements, which, if understood, would deepen one’s benefit of the service and perhaps increase its attendance. This thesis project aims at providing a resource for clergy to teach vespers to parishioners by taking them through a journey of salvation history – “From Creation to Christ” – as revealed in vespers, and giving them a spiritual understanding of the service.
