  • Play engages body/mind/spirit offering multiple connections as elixir to existing models of pastoral care. Exploring play's potential, this study asks: can play effect one's ability to car for others and oneself by stimulating new perceptions and capacities that foster individual and communal wholeness? Five capacities of play, befriending one's body, engaging the inner child, expressing feeling, developing spontaneity, and opening perceptive innocence, are investigated. Using Relational Cultural Theory and Behavioral Medicine a qualitative case study explores play as care, adapting transitional space into 'formative space of play' utilizing InterPlay. Results show an animated playground of grace; increasing authenticity, creativity, perception, and spontaneous delight.
