Abstract
  • The shortage of Catholic chaplains in the Army has caused Catholic soldiers to go without the Sacraments for long durations. The Army Chaplain Corps is only at 33-percent personnel strength in terms of Catholic chaplains. Retaining Army Catholic chaplains has become increasingly important in light of Department of Defense budget cuts; moreover, retention is more cost-effective for the Army than recruitment. The purpose of this project was to offer a theological and biblical identity for military chaplaincy; provide a brief survey of recruitment programs that have been implemented, and in light of these personnel shortages, concluded with proposed suggestions beneficial for the Chaplain Corps.
