- This study attempts to aid lay people, ministers and funeral directors living in Hawaii to consider enlarging inter-cultural funeral practices by becoming more aware of ethnic rites, rituals and symbols surrounding the experiences of physical death. Christianity has a unique theological contribution to individuals at the time of death. That contribution, centered on the resurrection event, is enhanced when it is presented in forms that are understandable to ethnic people in non-Christian traditions who live in close proximity to one another. The funeral rituals of different Christian ethnic groups can enrich one another when they are shared in the context of worship that is inclusive, and seeks to serve the needs of the mourners.
