Abstract
  • The author establishes a Jewish framework of images through which counselors can develop a 'diagnosis.' This narrative construct enables the client to envision him or herself as a person in Exodus who is called to integrate the self and to mirror the creative power of God through the performance of Mitzvot. Biblical and Rabbinic texts are combined with Heinz Kohut's theories. The author links nodal points of the Exodus with critical phases of personality development and with the inner development of the counselor. Such parallels are meant to enhance the search for meaning inherent in the counseling process.
