Models are suggested for using the Sunday sermon, 'quiet day' meditations, and related models of teaching with parish churches as beginning points for group spiritual direction sessions, wherein participants share in pointing direction. A case is made for expanded use of group spiritual direction substantiated by the results of questionnaires completed by participants in parish groups. The thesis describes wholeness and holiness and their relationship to spiritual development, contemporary definitions and uses of spiritual direction, and concludes that there is rich potential for varieties of group spiritual direction based in worship and education modes which already exist in parishes.
