- The purpose of this study is to examine the connection between prayer and running. After defining prayer as a receptive mode of consciousness akin to meditation, prayer is further categorized into three levels: detachment prayer, dialogue prayer and discovery prayer. Each is related to both Christian tradition and the experiences of 'runner-prayer-ers'. Subsequent chapters deal with such subjects as holistic health, auto-hypnosis, the runner's 'high,' journal writing and personality changes. Conclusions reached as a result of this study include the belief that running can be a useful aid in the development of a growing prayer life.
